Role Purpose
The Senior Fund Controller will work closely with the Head of Fund Operations, taking ownership of the fund accounting, control and reporting activities across ROYC’s private market mandates. The role will also provide business partnering to the ROYC investment team, structuring team, distribution team and investor relations team. This includes liaison with third parties as required (external administrators, lawyers, auditors etc). A range of ad-hoc activities will also be carried out as required.
Role Description
Support Fund Operations & Processes:
Work alongside the Head of Fund Operations as a key partner in designing and implementing fund operational models, structures, and systems for closed end and evergreen private market funds.NAV & Fund Accounting Review:
Review quarterly NAV packs prepared by the fund administrators, including trial balances, general ledger postings, accruals, FX and portfolio valuations, ensuring accuracy and consistency with the fund documentation (LPA / offering documents) and ROYC’s shadow records.Capital Calls & Distributions:
Review capital call and distribution notices and investor allocations, including equalisation and interest on subsequent closings, and validate distribution waterfall calculations (return of capital, preferred return, GP catch-up and carried interest).Management Fees, Carried Interest & Expenses:
Validate management fee calculations, carried interest accruals, and the allocation of organisational and operating expenses in line with fund documents and expense caps.Investor Capital Accounts:
Oversee investor capital account statements and partners’ capital roll-forwards, and review quarterly investor reporting, including performance metrics (IRR, TVPI, DPI, RVPI) and ILPA-style fee and expense reporting.Valuations:
Support the quarterly valuation cycle, reviewing portfolio valuations for consistency with the IPEV Guidelines and the AIFM’s valuation policy, and liaising with the investment team and AIFM on supporting evidence.Shadow Accounting & Reconciliations:
Maintain and develop ROYC’s shadow accounting and reconciliation framework, including NAV-to-shadow, cash and bank, and investor commitment reconciliations, and document the key controls underpinning each process.Cash & Liquidity Management:
Monitor fund cash positions and bank accounts, review payment instructions, and track drawdowns and repayments under subscription or credit facilities, including covenant and borrowing-base reporting.Regulatory & Reporting Familiarity:
Maintain working knowledge of AIFM regulations, regulatory reporting workflows, and operational processes across alternative asset funds. Provide the accounting inputs to regulatory and tax reporting, including AIFMD Annex IV, CSSF/BCL statistical returns and FATCA/CRS.Third-Party Service Provider Coordination:
Act as a primary contact for third-party fund administrators and other providers. Review and reconcile fund reporting with ROYC’s internal data, raising issues where needed.Financial Statements & Audit:
Lead the review of the funds’ annual audited financial statements (Lux GAAP / IFRS) and investor statements, working with fund administrators and auditors to ensure accuracy and timely delivery. Coordinate the year-end audit process, including PBC requests, audit queries and management representation letters.Oversight of Administrators & Auditors:
Monitor service levels, escalate issues, and help ensure external partners deliver to agreed standards.Performance Reporting & Fund Data Review:
Review performance reports, NAV files, liquidity features, and other fund data supporting internal teams with accurate information for research, client queries, and product updates.Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance operational workflows and contribute to the implementation of efficient, scalable processes.Support Technology & Product Enhancements:
Work with the technology team to test, validate, and provide feedback on enhancements to the ROYC investor portal and other internal tools. Participate in operational change initiatives.
People Management
Depending on experience, the role may include responsibility for supporting and developing other members of the Fund Operations team. This may involve:
• Acting as the first point of review and technical guidance on fund accounting matters for fund controllers and analysts
• Supporting the onboarding, training and day-to-day development of junior team members
• Helping to plan and allocate work across fund mandates to meet reporting and close deadlines
• Reviewing team outputs before sign-off and maintaining consistent standards and procedures

Preferred profile
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• 5+ years of fund accounting experience, including at a senior or reviewer level
• Recent experience of private equity, semi-liquid or venture capital fund accounting either for an investment firm/fund administrator
